Your True Nature (www.myadviceforlife.com/) has some great advice from a chicken. I love sending the bookmark to friends. I was reading it to a friend the other day and I started thinking — what could be better than advice from a chicken?

Well, as we move into this holiday season, how about advice from a turkey? If you don’t know, I love turkeys. My Ph.D. projects were all about turkey meat quality and I loved raising them. There’s nothing better than hearing them gobble when I walked into their pens. They’re beautiful birds with a fantastic personality.

I think we can all use some good advice right now. So, here goes: Advice from a turkey to start out the holidays on the right foot (or should I say paw)?

Always strut your stuff — Most of us never take the time to value ourselves. No need to brag but we should always value our impact and our skills that contribute good things to our family and society. This is especially true over the holidays. Say "yes" when you want and say "no" when you don’t. It is a time to relax and enjoy.
Gobble 'til you wobble — This doesn’t need explanation: Eat that turkey and all the sides. Don’t forget about the pies. I have already ordered five homemade pies from our local church — two pumpkin, one each of cherry, blueberry and pecan. After gobbling that all up it will be time for a nap and some football.
Be well dressed — Dressing is cooked separately from the turkey while stuffing is cooked inside the turkey. Food safety tip: Make dressing.
Have impeccable taste — Always use a meat thermometer to make sure you aren’t drying out that turkey. Use herbs and spices and explore cooking methods to keep that turkey juicy and tender.
Flock together — The holidays are a time to spend with family and friends and pets, those you love.
Stand tall — Turkeys don’t slouch. Be proud. Stand tall. Be confident. You are worthy of love and kindness.
Spread your wings — This holiday season, let’s use our wingspan for big hugs. They say a 20 second hug will alleviate stress and burnout through the release of oxytocin, a hormone that lowers blood pressure and slows your heart rate. I am pretty sure your mood will improve after that 20 second hug.
Gobble up all the wisdom you can — This holiday may be the first time in a long time that we are able to be together with family and friends. We all have a lot of catching up to do. Grandparents, parents, etc. have all gotten a little bit older, and I am pretty sure we have missed a few lessons to be learned from them over the last two years. Listen and learn.
Don’t let life ruffle your feathers — There is a lot of chaos going on right now in this crazy world, but we are all on the same big blue planet. Most of these things are out of our control. Let's focus on love and kindness during this holiday season and not focus on the drama of politics, bad news, COVID-19, or anything else that brings drama to the table. Turn on that Hallmark Channel, drink some cocoa, bake cookies and have some sing-along music in the background. At my house, there is usually some dancing and singing through the kitchen.
