Food safety officials in Canada recently announced separate recalls for chicken and beef products sold in hotels, restaurants and institutions both nationally and regionally.

The national chicken recall involved A&W brand Chicken Breast Portion Fully Cooked Breaded, Seasoned Boneless, skinless, Fillets Removed (sold as Chubby Chicken Burger) due to undercooking, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said in a news release. The products were produced June 26 by Maple Leaf Foods Inc. and were in 5 kg packages for distribution to hotels, restaurants and institutions. The agency did not announce the amount of chicken products that fall under the recall, but expressed concerns about potential contamination.

The other recall involved Classic Philly Steak brand sandwich slices of seasoned glazed beef, likewise intended for hotels, restaurants and institutions but with limited provincial distribution in Quebec. The recall was promoted by microbial contamination, which resulted in the product having an “off odor,” CFIA said in a news release. The affected product was recalled by Chris P. Food Distribution Inc., the agency said in the recall announcement.

CFIA recommended that neither of the affected products should be used, sold, served or distributed, and neither news release contained information on whether anyone has become ill after consuming the recalled products.
